Grey

Every week I take a look at the women who post on Patti's Visible Monday and admire the combination of bright colours on display. They fill me with the ambition to introduce far more vibrancy into my clothing. But the fact of the matter is that I feel very happy and 'myself' when I'm wearing grey.
This Oska needlecord suit (rather crumpled!) is a favourite. The skirt is cut at an angle which makes it a little quirky. As you know, I like an asymmetrical look!

The fine grey cotton blouse is from Gap
and the cashmere cardi, with velvet detail, from Boden.

Grey suede Audley shoes.

I won't embarrass myself by saying how many pairs of grey trousers I possess, but here is another of my grey skirts. This one is by Lilith in a linen/rayon mix. It has an unusual cut, with extremely large pockets set at different levels. Worn with another Gap cotton blouse and a cashmere jumper from George at Asda which has three-quarter sleeves and a very long body which is great over leggings.
Grey fabric ballet flats.

  1. Well I adore gray in all its iterations, and these skirts are grand. I esp love big pockets as in #2. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, you look great.

    1. I don't think a skirt is up to much if it hasn't got practical pockets. Mind you, the contents of my pockets sometimes resemble that of a small boy, with an odd assortment of rubber bands etc..

  2. I'm a grey girl, too. Always have been. And now that my hair is starting to match, so much the better! As always, you look gorgeous.

    1. Like many people who go grey early I used to have very dark brown hair and the colour of the clothes that I then wore were quite different from now. I can no longer get away with red, unless on shoes (I love red shoes!) although I still wear the bright pink that used to be called 'Italian'. Never got on with orange or yellow but love purples, blues and black. Must be my cool Northern heritage!

  3. Love that skirt now no one is going to be wearing that bc you must have tweaked or made it? Love your style bc it just makes me smile.

    1. No tweaking involved, they were straight off the peg. Both the Lilith and Oska labels make clothes that are comfy, slightly blue-stocking and with a bit of a twist, which is why I can't resist them!

  4. I think it's hard to get grays to photograph well ... loving it with the lavender and the tiny sparkle on the darker shoes. Victoriana gone modern!

    1. Yes, grey is rather tricky to photograph. And you're right, Jan, there is a Victorian/Edwardian look, the skirt looks a bit like a hobble - although it has a slit at the side so that I can stride out in unladylike fashion!

  5. I adore gray as well. It suits you perfectly, especially with your beautiful hair. I also love asymmetrical pieces. I have a skirt quite similar to the one you show. I have to laugh at myself when your blog name comes up.. I hear in my head, "OH!! It's Miss Cellany!" which sort-of rhymes with celery. I totally miss the miscellany part. I think if I were naming a child again, I'd be tempted by Cellany. XXOO

    1. Naming children, now that's a fascinating subject. I had all manner of unusual and beautiful ideas before our children were born but, in the event, we erred on the side of caution and settled for simple well-used classics. (Any likelihood that you'll be naming a child again? If so, keep me posted on the choice of names!)
