Autumn dressing

It's an in-between season, and while the sun still has some warmth it is cold in the shadows. Autumn has definitely arrived, time to look out a cosy jacket. This one in green wool is from Laura Ashley, a hand -me -down from a daughter.
Underneath it there is a bit of layering going on. A velvet waistcoat from Boden, bought at one of their sales. (There is to be another big sale next week - watch this space!)  I have always liked to wear waistcoats and this is a comfortable everyday one.
Worn with M&S jeans that fit at the waist, hurray, so that I can tuck in my blouse and keep warm!
The waistcoat has a soft cotton pinstriped fabric on the back and I'm wearing it with a linen blouse passed on from my friend Janet who made the enamel and fabric brooch that I have pinned to the collar.
For Patti's Visible Monday at Not Dead Yet Style.

    1. Dear Patti, your new grey dress looks lovely and I keep thinking about your accessories - it's as good as going shopping with a friend, all the pleasure of considering nice possibilities without the guilt of spending money! I am a big fan of the colour grey both in clothing and decor. It takes other colours so well. I hope we shall get to see plenty of wedding photos.

    1. Autumn colours to match the garden. And thank you for the compliment, Bonnie, but I delete the squint-eyed, lumpy photos!

    1. The waistcoat is my favourite, bought several years ago at Boden's big clearance sale. Another sale coming up next week. Last time it was quite a scrum, but worth it. I hope that I shall be lucky and find something nice!

    1. Living in England makes a warm woollen jacket a necessity, Cindy!

  5. This is a beautiful early Autumn outfit. I love the green jacket. But if it's handed from a daughter wouldn't it be a hand-me-UP??

    1. Possibly the best description would be 'hand-me-round' as clothes get passed around all three of us, both daughters, and sometimes on to friends - and back! :-)

    2. Oops, just posted the 'hand me up' before reading the other posts!

  6. Wow, I love that nubbly green jacket with the violet underneath. You look great in this. Your friend's brooch is a perfect touch.

    1. Pedestrian, that's how I look and feel, after I've seen your magical tulle in autumn leaves. Your best photo ever and that dress deserves it's very own story (and picture, of course.)

  7. What a lovely color combination. I had forgotten that your side of the pond says waistcoat while we say vest.
The violet brooch is so pretty. Violets have always been one of my favorite flowers. Purple looks beautiful with your hair, which I greatly admire, both the cut and the color.

    1. Ha, Debbie, we speak a different language - a vest is what I wear over my bra and under my blouse when the temperature drops!
Thank you for the compliment on my hair. The colour is just as it comes and I am too lazy/timid to do anything about it but the cut is crucial and I pay good money for it!

  8. I had just been talking to my husband about a jacket for autumn when I came to your blog - from another blog of course. I read about your warm green jacket a 'hand me down' from your daughter. Isn't that a 'hand me up' he asked. Ha!

Love the layering - and I agree about jeans to the waist. I am in the process of changing my look, inspired by all the amazing style bloggers of around my age. Adding you to my faves.

    1. My jacket season doesn't seem to have lasted for long, today I'm in a winter coat! Cold and wet here in the south-west of England, with a very low light level that the American author, Bill Bryson, once described as like living inside a tupperware bowl!
