Back to the 40's!

Last weekend on our way home from Yorkshire we drove into the next dale to visit my brother and sister-in-law.
They live in the pretty little town of Grassington.
And guess what? It was yet another 40's weekend!
It was an ideal venue because no traffic was allowed through the main streets.

We had a wander round the town at midday as the 'promenaders' and 're-enactors' were tucking in to lunch.
We had seen this 'spiv' at the Leyburn event in the summer. Now he had sensibly added a warm coat to his outfit. "Not 40's prices!" he remarked of his drink of coffee.

Family groups were again on display

and some very strange fantasies were being enacted!
"Are you a nun in disguise?" Himself wanted to know.

  1. Rosemary, I love these pictures. I feel like I have stepped into a period novel. All I need is a little music.

    1. Yes, it is a strange sensation to walk about amongst these re-enactors. There was music, but I haven't learnt how to blog it!

    1. It is a very pretty town, often over-run with tourists. My brother and sister-in-law are happy to be living on a quiet street.
Everyone at these events obviously love dressing up, the men every bit as much as the women!

    1. Miss J. Hunter Dunn, your wrap may be gracing the shoulders of a re-enactor at some 40's dance. The new owner may even have strongly adorable tennis-girl's hands!

  4. Hi Miss Cellany (good nom de plume)
I am putting a website together for the Town Hall in Grassington. Your 40s w/e photos are great and I was wondering if I could use some. The Town Hall (flu name is Devonshire Institute) is a charity which relies on events like this. I would include a credit

    Regards
