Tuesday Intros.

I'm joining Barbara, who hosts the Tuesday book event, with a novel by Mark Haddon about family members who take a week's holiday in a rented house in Wales.
It took me a while to get into the rhythm of the story. The opening page isn't too promising, but on the strength of his first book, which I had enjoyed, I kept reading. Each chapter is another day in the week's holiday.
Each character in the book gets their fair share of attention - some are more deserving than others!
We are lucky to have two really good independent bookshops in my nearest city and I've been there today to buy Christmas presents. I can't tell you what I've bought because family members look at the blog. Both shops feel like Aladdin's cave. I'll take my camera along next time and photograph them for you.

    Did you pick something up for yourself while at the bookshops? I don't think I would be able to help myself. :-) I would love to see pictures of them the next time you go!

    I enjoyed Mark Haddon's previous book, and am on the fence about this one. Maybe.

      Dear Feline, I was very tempted to buy something for myself, I feel like a child in a sweetshop when I'm in these bookshops, but on this occasion I was buying strictly for others.
      I've finished 'The Red House' now. It got better as it went along, but wasn't especially memorable for me.

    I haven't read this author yet. I hope you enjoy the book. It can be disappointing when you read one and enjoy it tremendously and then the next doesn't live up to the author's reputation. My link for this week is here: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-1ox
