Tuesday intros: Anne Tyler

Along with many other thousands of readers I LOVE Anne Tyler books, I'm immediately drawn in and emotionally involved with the characters that she creates. She keeps me on tenterhooks, just the right level of concern, the right level of hope.

Here is the opening page.
I'm just into the first few chapters, disturbed by Cody's behaviour, worrying about gentle Ezra. Oh, the joy of a good book and an author you can trust!
With thanks to Barbara for hosting TuesdayIntros.

  1. You know, I have never read an Ann Tyler book. I do want to though. This one sounds good. I was reminded of when my daughter had croup--of course, it was much later in time and wasn't quite as serious as it was in 1931. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Rosemary, I think I just read a book of her's not long ago. It was A SPOOL OF BLUE THREAD.

    1. That was the last one of hers that I read. Shamed to say that I can't remember too much about it for the moment!

    1. I like the sound of your choice this week, Donna. (And the thought of a book and a blanket - winter has arrived here in Blighty!)

  5. I've read a couple of her books and would continue reading this one to see where it goes.

  6. Love the title, love the cover but I'm not sure about the opening. Would probably give it a few pages and see if it grabbed me.

    1. I agree with you about the opening, it's a bit off-putting to open up with someone dying! If I hadn't read and enjoyed other books by her this opening would not have attracted me.

  7. Sorry I'm a little late responding but this has been a stressful week with testing and doctor appointments.

    I love this author.

I hope you and your family have a special Thanksgiving.

    1. Sorry to learn that it's been a hard week for you, Diane, I hope things turn out well.
Thanksgiving isn't celebrated in Blighty, but it's nice to have your good wishes nevertheless.
