Ah, yes, it was Connie at snow in the air.
It reminded me that back in the year nod I bought a second-hand, (now more politely known as 'vintage') man's pinstriped suit. It is beautifully tailored; far more effort seems to go into making a man's suit than one for a woman. I used to wear it a lot, usually with a white shirt and a big tie. But I had a lot of long hair then to act as a balance and make it look a nice joke. Today I softened the look with a necklace.

I've always wanted to do the Katherine Hepburn trouser-glam look, but it just doesn't work on me. :( I think you're a trouser person or you're not, alas.
ReplyDeleteThere are some black and white studio photos of Katherine Hepburn looking fantastic in very masculine clothing but she could also wear ultra feminine dresses to perfection. I was a big fan and loved the film, 'Bringing up Baby' when I was young. (Also loved Cary Grant!)

ReplyDeleteI'm not usually ageist about clothing but I think that I was able to carry this suit off much better when I was much younger. It was reading some of your other 'visible' bloggers that reminded me that this suit was hanging in the landing wardrobe!

ReplyDeleteIt needed the jewelry, Debbie. I like big necklaces and they so often just lift or complete an outfit. Just recently the strings on two of my favourite necklaces have broken, luckily where I could scrabble about on the floor and retrieve the pieces. It seems to be a problem when the stones are large.

ReplyDeleteYes. it's a good, generous cut to the jacket and when it's all buttoned up has rather a jaunty line. (Or so I like to think!)

Cuba was quite an experience, Val, and very thought provoking. It left us with a lot of questions and not many answers.

DeleteGreat, wonderful, fabulous look in this suit. Did you have it tailored at all? 'Cause it looks like it fits so well The long jacket gives it an Edwardian look, and I really appreciate the pretty stones ... they do soften and individualize.
ReplyDeleteIt started life as a three button cuff and now it is two, Jan, just a minor adjustment. The jacket does, indeed, have a rather Edwardian look to it. I have always felt quite jaunty when wearing it but I think that it's probably time to pass it on to a daughter.
