Six go sightseeing in Crete.

Forget Enid Blyton's Famous Five, on last weeks holiday in Crete it was a case of the not-at-all famous Six going sightseeing around Crete in our hire cars. No, not down there,  Shep, its a goat track!
We went up into the hills
where there was snow on the tops.
What a pleasure to wander about in the warmth under a blue sky. This is just what we were all in need of after a dark, dank winter.

The café overlooking the harbour looked good.
Time to stop for drinks.

Then on to discover somewhere else.

Lunch break. Note our neat little insulated bags supplied by the hotel. We were given them at breakfast with drinks supplied and told to fill with whatever food we wanted. A nice change from the inevitable boiled egg and a bread roll in a cardboard box.  (Although I did put a boiled egg into mine for old times sake.) Julie commandeered the tables at this empty café, not yet opened for the season. Oh, the cheek of it!
This sightseeing lark is very tiring!
We never made it up into the burial grounds
but went back over the hills
stopping now and then to take in the views.

Thank you, folks, for your good company.

Designer of dreams!

I went to the Dior exhibition at the V&A last Thursday evening. The title, 'designer of dreams' is well and truly earned, the clothes were indeed the stuff of dreams.
The curator, Oriole Cullen, gave an introductory talk. She was wearing a Bar jacket. It had only slight alterations to the initial design and was absolutely up to the minute. She wore it with jeans and looked wonderful!
And here is the first Bar suit.
I have always loved it. It is pretty near to perfection!
Along with just about everything that followed.

(Until we get to Galliano!)
The exhibition is huge and excitingly presented.

I love the work of the present head of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri, she retains the spirit of Christian Dior in her own beautiful creations,

dressing the stars for red carpet occasions.

This is one of her dresses in silk tulle for spring/summer '18.

A room of toile - glorious!

This 2019 magazine shot shows the Bar jacket and skirt in its most recent form, absolutely up to the minute whilst still referring back to the original of the 1940's.

I really do love this look!

Quilts at the American Museum

On Friday evening we went to the private view of Kaffe Fassett's new quilts, the work inspired by original pieces displayed at the American Museum in Bath.
The show contains both the old and the new and it was fascinating to move between them and note both the differences and the similarities.
What do you actually look at at a private view? We went early because there is usually such a crush that its impossible to see what is hanging on the walls. I heard someone say that you don't come to a private view to look at the work. I know what he meant; the patternistas and colour crazy were all in evidence. Wow, sock it to me!

Even Himself got in on the act in his pink jumper.

Photographing me photographing you.
(I wore my navy gymslip and didn't compete.)
Spots before my eyes.
This sunburst quilt  is the one that I would have taken home.
Phew!
